My child knocked out a tooth — what should I do right now?
It depends on whether it is a baby tooth or an adult tooth. For an adult (permanent) tooth: pick it up by the crown, not the root, rinse it gently with water if it is dirty — no scrubbing — and try to seat it back into the socket, or keep it in a cup of milk. Then call us right away at 561-787-7517; a knocked-out adult tooth has the best chance of being saved when it is treated quickly. For a baby tooth: do not try to put it back in, because that can damage the adult tooth developing underneath. Have your child bite gently on clean gauze to control the bleeding and call us so a dentist can check for other injuries.
